Holistic Health & Fitness

Changing our fitness culture.

The strength of the Army goes beyond the physical abilities of our Soldiers. With the Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) system, we focus on every aspect of wellness to improve Soldier and unit readiness across the Army.

Putting Holistic Health into practice.

We’re creating systems and opportunities to integrate our five areas of focus into Army protocols, evaluations, facilities, and equipment to improve the performance, readiness, and well-being of our Soldiers—both in and out of uniform.

Physical

We’re prioritizing the physical fitness and training required to meet the demands of duty and succeed in any mission. That’s why we’re researching new fitness regiments, examining new physiological standards, and using the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) to focus on combat-related tasks. Additionally, Soldiers have access to athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches to minimize injuries and ensure mission readiness.

Mental

We’re building mental strength, awareness, and capacity through constant training, refining skills, and testing abilities. This helps Soldiers feel confident and prepared to meet demands and adapt during difficult situations. Every Soldier also has access to a range of services, behavioral health programs, and therapists within their team to support mental health and mission readiness.

Nutritional

We have new menus and focused dietary guidelines to ensure our Soldiers are properly fueled and hydrated to complete the demands of duty. All Soldiers have access to a registered dietitian to design and lead nutritional education and programs.

Spiritual

We’re using religious, philosophical, and human values to help Soldiers find purpose, motivation, connection, and personal qualities to endure during times of stress and adversity. Unit Ministry Teams of trained counselors provide Soldiers with confidential spiritual guidance around religion, morals, ethics, and morale to build a stronger, more resilient Army.

Sleep

We’re recognizing and applying sleep behaviors to achieve optimal brain health, as well as mental and physical performance. Additionally, we’re improving sleep by focusing on nutrition, mental health, and physical well-being to positively impact Soldier readiness.
