Leadership training is one of the best ways to get promoted and move up in rank as an enlisted Soldier. There are several courses available designed to strengthen your ability to communicate, coordinate logistics, and lead teams. The skills you’ll learn depend on your rank and the course you take, but they’ll help you succeed in day-to-day missions and even future careers.
BLC is an intensive course and the first of leadership training where Soldiers learn the fundamental skills needed to lead small teams.
Requirement: Be a specialist or corporal who wants to advance to the rank of sergeant.
ALC is a branch-specific resident phase where Soldiers focus on the skills needed to lead squad- and platoon-sized units.
Requirement: Be selected for promotion to staff sergeant.
SLC is where Soldiers focus on the technical and tactical skills, knowledge, and experience needed to lead platoon- and company-sized units.
Requirement: Be selected for promotion to sergeant first class.
CCFSPCC is where Soldiers focus on unit administration, personnel management, logistics, and communications skills, taught by a mix of subject matter experts.
Requirement: Be a sergeant first class or master sergeant that wants to become first sergeant of a company, battery, or troop.
The Battalion and Brigade Pre-Command Course is where Soldiers learn to lead at the highest levels of the Army and defense department.
Requirement: Be a Soldier who wants to become a senior non-commissioned Officer.
CSMA is where Soldiers focus on developing training plans along with assigning and caring for other Soldiers and their families.
Requirement: Be a sergeant major who wants to become a battalion command sergeant major.
In the Army, leadership can make the difference between mission success and failure. Pursuing other leadership opportunities will give you the ability to communicate, organize and motivate peers, and think strategically during stressful moments. By reaching your full potential, you’ll help build a stronger team.
Become a commissioned Officer at Officer Candidate School (OCS) by applying as a civilian, active-duty enlisted, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard Soldier with at least a bachelor’s degree.
Army Rangers are seen as role model Soldiers and experience one of the toughest training experiences in the Army to become experts in leading high-pressure combat missions.
Special Forces Soldiers specialize in unconventional warfare and include the elite team of Rangers, Green Berets, and Night Stalkers.
Air assault Soldiers master assault helicopter missions, learning landing equipment, rappelling, and navigation in order to wear the distinctive Air Assault badge.
Jumpmasters are experts who teach other Soldiers the techniques of jumping from airplanes while instructing at Airborne School.
Pathfinders are trained to navigate through foreign terrain and identify safe parachute drop zones for Army aircraft and Airborne Soldiers.
